That Girl { Recommendations }

by Penny on March 11, 2010

Speaking of movies, I had no clue that The Girl… trilogy was made into films! I finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a few weeks ago and LOVED it (only 6 bucks on Amazon). I bought the next book in the trilogy but I’m waiting for Hawaii to read it.

Have you read any of the books (no spoilers in the comments)? What do you think about the trailer for the first movie?

Update: According to Wikipedia, Yellow Bird, a Swedish film production company, has released films for ALL three books (the first shown below). There are talks of a US film version of the first book (not an adaptation of the Swedish film). George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt have all expressed interest in playing the central male character, Mikael Blomkvist. Quentin Tarantino, Ridley Scott and Marin Scorsese have all expressed interest in directing.

But, who would play Lisbeth? Seems like a roll for a newcomer, no?

I love the first two books…get ready to be glued to the second one while you’re in Hawaii! I saw the movie a few weeks ago, and it’s good, but the suspense was somewhat gone since I knew the plot. But, still good!

OMG I’ve read the whole trilogy and it is terrific. The writing really picks up in the second and third books too, so that’s something to look forward to. A friend covered the first one for her book club and did an exhaustive amount of research on the author, circumstances surrounding his death, societal and gender issues in Sweden, etc. Fascinating stuff. My accuracy on this might be a bit off, but I think that the author’s girlfriend has about 10 manuscripts in her possession but can’t publish them due to some legal kerfuffle with Larsson’s father. Quelle dommage. Either way, thanks for sharing the trailer! I agree that a newcower would be perfect for Lisbeth; it would make an awesome formative role for a young actress.

I finished the first book last month and am just waiting for Powell’s to have a paperback copy of the second one.

I was GLUED to the book. Heck, even the finance stuff had me interested since I’m also taking finance classes. (felt like I was studying a bit)

While reading it, I honestly thought that it would make a great movie (I have no idea there was already one coming out). Except… there are a few scenes that I would rather not see… I’m really concerned how they would work those in – or, if they cut them out, how that would affect the character development…. Not going to stop me from seeing it though.

(If they cast Natalie Portman, I’m gonna be PISSED.)

Oh, I loved the trilogy. So much that my boyfriend ordered the third book from the UK so that we would not have to wait until it was released in the US. This trailer isn’t at all what I pictured reading it though. Blomkvist isn’t as mysteriously attractive as he is supposed to be and Lisbeth is darker and more bad ass than I imagine her. In the books, Larsson paints the picture of a petite, blonde, simple looking but very eccentric girl as if to catch you by surprise. This casting job does none of that.

I just read David Fincher is trying to direct the US version of tattoo. I’d watch that.
