First Halfpence Purchase

by Penny on March 11, 2010

I’ve been resisting long enough, and in celebration of my entré into second trimesterhood (14 weeks on Monday!) I treated halfpence to his or her first clothing purchase. I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for a cute kids sale on Gilt and finally decided on some cute pairs of shoes and a cozy hat by Elephantito. They arrived in the mail yesterday and they are so cute and teeny tiny!

I’ve still been feeling tired and run-down, not to mention ridiculously forgetful. Friends, blog readers, even my parents, are lucky if they see any responses to emails. I am definitely getting a lot of  “WTF where are you” notes dropping into my inbox.

Thankfully, this seems to be turning around. I’m still tired and forgetful, but I am feeling the draw of that second trimester heaven I keep hearing about. I’m having fantasies of shooting out of bed at 6am, remembering to pay my bills on time and keeping promises/plans.

Yesterday morning I fainted on light rail on my way to catch my train to work. I’ve never fainted before, so it certainly scared me, and it was a horrible feeling. I had taken my prenatal in the morning as I had forgotten it the night before. Big mistake on an empty stomach! Apparently the medium shrimp-sized halfpence is hungry. I have only gained a few pounds, but I have been eating a lot! I feel like I am developing a gut, not a tummy.

By next week, it seems that it will be peeing in my uterus. Lovely.

ohmigod, those teeny tiny shoes! So cute! Were your purchases gender neutral? And I can’t believe you fainted! How Victorian of you!

I know, right, bring me the smelling salts.

Yes, the look a bit masculine but I figure they will work for either sex!

Oh no! I’m so sorry you fainted, and on the train of all places! I’m a fainter (there’s absolutely nothing wrong with me – I just faint a lot), and it’s terrifying every time it happens. So no more skipping breakfast for you!

i’m going to give you the same lashing i got from my midwife after taking my prenatal (and 4 other pills) on an empty stomach and then hacking up stomach acid for 18 hours straight – IF YOU HAVE TIME TO TAKE THE PILL YOU HAVE TIME FOR A PIECE OF CHEESE, GLASS OF MILK, A HANDFUL OF NUTS, A SLICE OF BREAD, SOMETHING! ANYTHING!!

fainting must suck. the closest i’ve ever come was during panic attacks when i *thought* i was going to faint. alfalfa caplets might help if you find you’re a bit anemic.

Take care of yourself – when I was pregnant with the girls I kept snacks in all of my handbags, desk, etc. For emergencies! The baby shoes are so cute, I saw the new Fall collection while I was in NYC at the shows. So cute. You should check out Lili Gaufrette if you like Elephantito. So cute.
