Balmain presented one of the most popular shows of fall 2009, with looks I knew I’d want to interpret into my own wardrobe. While lovely, I’m not in the market for super-short body-con dresses swathed in Swarovski crystals, but I fell in love with the separates. The genius of Decarnin is his ability to turn the quintessential basics (black blazers, stiletto boots, cigarette pants) into elevated, edgy, must-have investment pieces. The trick, of course, is finding cheaper versions of designs so unique, special and perfectly tailored.

Balmain F/W 2009 Pieces
- Buckle-Embellished Boots, $1.605
- Wool Cropped Tuxedo Pants, $2,195
- Cotton-Blend Tuxedo Jacket, $3,805
- Suede Zipped Ankle Boots, $1,975
- Leather Motorcycle Jacket, $12,050 (Holy Moses)
All items, if they are within your budget, can be found at Net-A-Porter.
For those of us who cannot afford a 12-thousand-dollar leather jacket (I don’t even think I have a credit card with a max that high), but love the above Balmain looks, I’ve done some hunting for cheaper interpretations.

LOVE Balmain! Thanks for doing this! It’s hard for me to try to interpret runway into wearable daily stuff so this is great!
I just bought a black blazer from Target that actually fits really well. Its a boyfriend style but it is still cut for a woman so its not too boxy. I’m a tall woman with kind of broad shoulders and I was able to fit into a small (I wanted a closer fit)
