For Todd’s birthday I bought tickets to Portland and took care of our hotel (sorry Claudia, not fireworks, I’m not that awesome). For the first time, I used Hotwire, albeit nervously. I lucked out, though, and ended up with a room at The Nines, a five star-rated hotel in downtown Portland. It seems quite nice, and although I am a little bummed that we will not be at the Ace (for the immediate proximity to Stumptown), I am eager to try something new.
Have any of you made travel plans for the summer? I have two trips to Portland in June and July (one work-related, although casual, and one for vacation), but other than that, nothing on the books. I’d love to hear about your plans!

Well its not fireworks but….kidding! That looks so nice. We were just talking about taking a trip up north to Petoskey MI at the end of July for a few days. BF wants to go on a couple little trips but frankly I would like us to save up and go to Spain this winter. That is my current dream vacation.
I do not have any vacation plans but if I don’t find a steady job by July, I might go help a friend out on her archaeological dig for her dissertation. Its out on a gorgeous island that I love going to and it will be fun. If I am lucky and am able to get my grandparents to help me pay for it I might do a field school hopefully somewhere fun like Spain or Italy. I need to do a field school for my career but like always money is an issue
I am thinking of going to London. I’ve never been, but I’m idly considering moving there, and I feel like I should probably check the place out first…
PS, do it! Then become a citizen and let me marry you. I LOVE THE UK.
I second Penny, do it!! I LOVE London. I really really want to move there myself. I have even considered grad school there just so I can live in London.
ooh love the turquoise accents in the pictures!
I am not vacationing anywhere – people are coming to me for their vacations instead :)
So you’ve totally inspired me to take my boyfriend on a trip for his birthday. It’s coming up and no matter what I get for him, he never ends up using it or it gets lost (no matter how expensive it is). A weekend trip is perfect. I’m thinking Savannah, GA. Thanks for the inspiration!!
I am headed to Las Vegas in June and Sun Valley, Idaho in July. I’m very excited about Sun Valley!
one of my best girlfriends is getting married in portland over july 4th weekend. we fly into and out of seattle and will make an overnight trip to vancouver. while in portland we’re staying at mcmenamins edgefield – the ceremony will be on the grounds, the reception in the pub, there is a distillery and winery and spa. i’m very excited.
after the PNDub i’ll have zero vacation days left for 2009 (i took a last minute trip to hawaii in march and a long weekend for my brother’s wedding in april). but i’m trying to save up for a weekend in st. augustine for my one year wedding anniversary.
I, too, am headed to Portland in June and will actually be staying at the Ace! It’s funny because I have never stayed at a hotel in Portland, seeing as how I lived there, so it will be kind of odd to be a tourist in my former hometown. We might just have to stay at the Nines next time because it looks lovely.
Oh, and we will be purchasing approximately 25 pounds of Stumptown coffee to bring back to Philly. And I will be drinking a million of their incredible mochas.
I just came back from a long weekend at the beach in Florida, which was nice, but we were kind of stuck in a touristy area. In July, the boyfriend and I are headed to his grandmother’s summer house in Little Switzerland, NC (about an hour from Asheville). We went last summer and had a wonderful time. It will be a bittersweet trip this time because his grandmother passed away earlier this year, but I think that she’d want us to still go.
You will love the Nines – not as urban as the Ace but the art is pretty cool and the bar can be quite the scene come a Saturday Night!!
Not quite sure about this summer, my sis is having a baby, and my parents are visiting, so most of my vacation time will go into that. I might sneak in a hiking or a camping trip in there somewhere.
Plans are taking more shape for next summer though, when I am hoping to take a EuroTrip (pushed into action by the Chanel ad). Looks like it will be a fun summer.
It’s good to hear everyone so positive about London; I have to move there next year and am not really looking forward to it. We have a trip planned to the old UK for my sister in law’s wedding in June, plus a regular old week at the Jersey shore with my fam in August. Nothing fancy! We are planning an epic belated honeymoon in the fall in which we plan to visit Seattle for the first time to see friends (never been to the pacific NW, so excited) then drive all the way down to Mexico hitting all possible national parks, then all the way through Central America until the road ends in Panama. If time and finances allow we will fly from Panama to Brazil to see a friend who is moving to Sao Paolo. In order to complete this trip which will take at least a month I think we will both have to be unemployed though, which we are planning to coincide with that time period but anything could fuck it up…
JD, I officially want to be you!
JD you’re moving to London I’m so jealous! Actually I had this bizarre idea a year or so ago to move to Europe and because the Euro to Dollar ratio was so skewed towards the Euro, my plan was to pay down my law school debt faster. of course the trick is getting a job…
As I live in Australia I have a Winter whale watching trip to the South coast of NSWin July, and in late August I am hoping to go to Fiji.
Well it’s all plans and dreams now, we’ll see if it happens but we are pretty committed to seeing as much of the Americas as we can before we leave for old england. Claudia that is my only hope for paying down my debt as well;Plan B being a wild hope that my creditors cannot find me abroad!
Oh! But don’t worry about being too far away from Stumptown! It is just a walk away. :) And the Max line is almost done being build so the construction chaos will be minimal.
I hope you two have a wonderful trip! I have yet to explore the Nines but hope to have dinner there soon. If you are coming soon, you picked a good time. No rain for a week!

I am traveling cross country to Portland OR In July, me and the boyfriend go ever summer to hit up the wineries, white water raft and hike waterfalls. No fancy hotels tho. We stay with my friends in Lake Oswego and his family outside of Salem.
ps. I am lucky enough to have stumptown around the corner from my apt in NYC :)
You must trot up West Burnside to Coffeehouse NW (after 19th)- They use Stumptown Coffee but for some reason, the way they make it up there trumps all the other Stumptown cafe’s I have visited. Plus they are very very nice and welcoming. Portland is just wonderful (Yes, I live here and love it) and if you ever want more recs on where to nosh and play, let me know!
