Anna Sui Target Collaboration Announced

by Penny on May 7, 2009

Could I be any more excited?

Target has announced that the next designer chosen for their Designer Collaboration Series is one of my favorites, Anna Sui.

Bowing on Sept. 13 on target.com and in about 250 select stores across the U.S., Anna Sui for Target will be available through Oct. 17.

The Designer Collaborations program features more established talents — Alexander McQueen was the inaugural designer — than the up-and-comers of Target’s Go International.

The new program also has an unusual conceit: designers draw inspiration from a collaborative partner, muse or creative element. Sui chose the four main female characters on the CW’s hit show “Gossip Girl.”

I am not quite sure how I feel about the Gossip Girl spin, but I can’t wait to see what she does! If her F/W collection is any indication, we’ll see a lot of her usual ethnic prints, loads of lace and hits of plaid. I am expecting at least one pair of velvet pants, a jacket with sweet gathered sleeves, loads of dresses (it’s what she does incredibly well, after all) and – I hope – some fun accessories.

Below, I’ve pulled some key looks from her F/W 2009 RTW collection and paired them with the appropriate GG character.  I know we have months before fall hits, but what are you hoping Sui creates for label-hungry Target shoppers?

I can’t see myself wearing this stuff. I shop at Target, quite a bit, so I will be interested in seeing how this translates.

It’s too fussy and strange. I can’t wear any of that to work.

I do, LOVE, though, the color palette.

I haven’t liked any of the GO collections so I can’t get excited about this. I do like all the other Target lines though.

i think the gossip girl thing is super lame. as if we aren’t already marinating in all things GG in the fashion world and otherwise. and it’s Anna Sui- she can sell on her name alone- why does she (or target?) think she needs a cheap marketing ploy like that?

that said…i ADORE anna sui. her boho rockabilly dresses with a pair of cute flat brown boots… essentially my day to day wardrobe. i’m SO psyched to see how she’ll bring it to an affordable level and can’t wait to see her dresses. loveloveLOVE!
